The Lesson from Scripture for today is read from the
Gospel According to John, chapter 2, verses 1-11.
It follows Johns story of Jesus calling some of his Disciples. Please read this lesson with me.
1 Three days later there was a wedding in the village of Cana in Galilee, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, was there. 2 Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was all gone, Mary said to Jesus, "They dont have any more wine." 4 Jesus replied, "Mother, my time has not yet come. You must not tell me what to do." 5 Mary said to the servants, "Do whatever Jesus tells you." 6 Nearby there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification. Each jar held twenty or thirty gallons. 7 Jesus told the servants, "Fill the jars with water." And they were filled to the brim. 8 Jesus said to them, "Now take some water to the man in charge of the feast." The servants did what Jesus told them, 9 and the man in charge tasted the water that had now turned into wine. He did not know where the wine had come from, but the servants did. He called the bridegroom over 10 and said, "The best wine is always served first. The inferior wine is served later after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept best until last!" 11 This was Jesus first sign, and he did it in Cana in Galilee. There Jesus revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
May God bless us because we have read and heard this Lesson.
From time-to-time, our Pastor presents a character sermon in which he plays the part of someone who was or could have been a part of the Lesson from Scripture for the Day.
Today we meet Simon from Cana in Galilee who cannot understand what has just happened in his little village. And he's not sure he can believe.
