Gregory Young Bailey, 51, was taken from his loved
ones, friends and union brothers & sisters in the
line of duty on Thursday, September 15, 2005.
G. Y. was born on December 12, 1953 in Burlington, North Carolina. G. Y. graduated from Western High School in 1972 and graduated from North Carolina School of the Arts in 1975.
He is survived by his wife, Kathie Derden Bailey; son, Brennan Bailey; daughters, Caylin Bailey, Elise Bailey and Ashley Derden, and grandson Jaiden Young Escalante all of Houston.
Parents Donzia and Margaret Bailey of Burlington, North Carolina, sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Rex Griffin of Graham, North Carolina, nieces Michelle and Sara and great niece, Olivia. In-laws, Mary Derden of Houston and Ed and Doris Derden of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and a host of numerous friends, family and BLE-T brothers and sisters.
G. Y. hired on with Southern Pacific Railroad in 1978 now Union Pacific Railroad.
He was a Locomotive Engineer, a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLE-T) for 13 years, Local Chairman for BLE-T Division #62 for the past 5 years, and a Primary Member of the National Safety Task Force of the BLE-T.
